Catalogue note

The purely abstract canvas of the run, and the one that shows the hand behind all the others: interlocking checkerboards, triangles and bands in thick unblended oil, divided by broad black diagonals that cut the surface like leading. A few concentric discs sit inside the pattern and read, unavoidably, as eyes -- the figure trying to reassemble itself out of pure geometry. The paint goes on in short loaded strokes with the ridges left standing, so the surface holds light unevenly across every panel.
