Catalogue note
The most restrained canvas of this run and the most deliberate: a bare back rendered in almost nothing -- one contour, one spine line -- floating on a pale ground he lets stay empty. Around her the surface fills with small marginal drawings in the manner of an illuminated page: an eye, a cat, a chair, a stool, faces at the edge. The lettering does the emotional work, DON'T LET IT GO in black and red at the right, I DREAMING BOUT U down the left, and the crown with QUEEN beneath it set directly on her skin -- a mark of address rather than decoration.
