A face ringed with spirals like a crown of suns, teeth out. It says I AM LOVE up top and AMEN off to the side. DREAMING down at the bottom.
Catalogue note
A frontal figure haloed by a ring of concentric spirals -- the eye motif repeated as ornament until the whole upper canvas becomes one radiating mass. The palette runs teal and viridian against magenta and cadmium, scrubbed thin enough that the weave shows through, with the bared teeth drawn in bone white. The words arrive as fragments rather than sentences -- AMEN, I AM LOVE, DREAMING -- scattered to the edges where painting and prayer meet, a register that runs from devotional folk painting straight through to the text-bearing canvases of the 1980s.
