The discipline piece: a grisaille field, grays scrubbed toward near-black and chalk white, carrying one continuous vocabulary of white and black line, with red rationed as the only full-voice color. Faces, mouths, hearts and small figures interlock edge to edge, drawn more than painted, in the spirit of automatist continuous-line drawing. Withholding color is the classical way a painter proves the drawing stands on its own; the title calls the bet, and the red tells you which parts to hear loudest.
