A childhood totem scaled up and drawn in oil stick, line first, color scrubbed in after -- the loose, urgent scrawl that runs from graffiti through Twombly. The color is deliberately non-local: a green-teal bear with a blue patched belly on a hot coral ground, complements at full volume held by dark contour. The words are load-bearing rather than caption -- COOL BEAR, BE KIND -- command and character at once, in the text-in-painting lineage Basquiat made canonical.
